These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of ParelVR, including our client software, websites (parelvr.parelllc.com and its subdomains), APIs, and the worlds, avatars, and community features within them (collectively, the "Service"), operated by Parel LLC ("Parel LLC," "we," "us," or "our"). By creating an account, installing the client, or otherwise using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you don't agree, don't use the Service.
1. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing or using ParelVR in any way — creating an account, purchasing the game, joining a world, or publishing an avatar — you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy. We may update these Terms from time to time as described in Section 12; continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you accept the revised Terms.
2. Eligibility
ParelVR is built and marketed as a 16+ experience. You must be at least 16 years old to create an account or use the Service. Access to ParelVR requires purchasing the game through Steam, which also serves as an age-verification step in line with Steam's own account requirements.
You may not use the Service if you are barred from doing so under the laws of your jurisdiction, or if you have been previously banned from ParelVR for violating these Terms, unless we've reinstated your access in writing.
3. Your Account
ParelVR accounts are backed by PlayFab, our backend identity and game-services provider. When you register, you'll choose a username and password and are issued a public ParelVR User ID (formatted like pvr_XXXX-XXX-XXXX) that identifies you to other players and to the API without exposing your underlying credentials.
You're responsible for:
- Keeping your login credentials confidential and not sharing your account with others.
- All activity that happens under your account, whether or not you authorized it.
- Providing accurate registration information and keeping it up to date.
One account per person. If we determine an account was created to evade a ban or circumvent these Terms, we may suspend or terminate it without notice.
4. User-Generated Content
ParelVR lets you build and publish worlds and avatars using our Creator Hub SDK in Unity. You retain ownership of the content you create. By publishing a world or avatar with a release status of public, community-labs, or limited, you grant Parel LLC a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, display, distribute, and allow other players to access that content within the Service, for as long as it remains published.
You represent that you own or have the necessary rights to everything you upload, and that your content doesn't infringe on anyone else's intellectual property, publicity, or privacy rights. Content marked private is visible only to you and anyone you explicitly grant access to.
We reserve the right to remove any content that violates these Terms, applicable law, or our content standards, and to take action against the account that published it.
5. Acceptable Use
To keep ParelVR safe and usable for everyone, you agree not to:
- Harass, threaten, or target other players, including through voice, text, avatars, or world content.
- Use cheats, exploits, bots, or third-party software to gain an unfair advantage or bypass anti-cheat protections.
- Upload content that is illegal, sexually explicit involving minors, or intended to incite violence or hatred against a protected group.
- Impersonate other players, ParelVR staff, or Parel LLC.
- Attempt to access accounts, servers, or data that aren't yours, including by probing or scanning our infrastructure without authorization.
- Interfere with the normal operation of the Service, including through excessive automated requests to our API.
We use anti-cheat technology to help detect and prevent violations of this section.
6. Purchases & Refunds
Access to ParelVR is purchased through Steam. In-experience items and offers may be purchased through our store, operated in partnership with Xsolla, a PCI DSS Level 1 compliant payment processor. Purchase and refund issues for store transactions should be directed to Xsolla Customer Support; purchase and refund issues for the base game go through Steam's own refund policy.
7. ParelVR Plus
ParelVR Plus is an optional premium membership tier that is currently in development and not yet available for purchase. Once launched, its features, pricing, and these Terms as they apply to it will be published in advance of general availability.
8. Moderation & Enforcement
Violating these Terms may result in a warning, temporary suspension, content removal, or a permanent ban, at our discretion, based on the severity and history of the violation. Reports of rule-breaking behavior, bugs, and ban appeals can all be submitted through our Support ticket form. We review every ticket, but we don't guarantee a specific outcome or timeline for any individual report or appeal.
9. Intellectual Property
ParelVR, the ParelVR name and logo, and all associated branding are trademarks of Parel LLC. Except for the license you grant us for your own user-generated content under Section 4, all software, design, and platform features of the Service are owned by Parel LLC and protected by applicable intellectual property laws. You may not copy, modify, reverse-engineer, or redistribute the ParelVR client or platform except as the Service itself allows (for example, publishing your own worlds and avatars through the SDK).
10. Disclaimers
ParelVR is under active development and is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We don't guarantee that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or available at all times, and features described on this site or elsewhere may change before release.
11. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Parel LLC and its team won't be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, use, or goodwill, arising out of or related to your use of the Service, even if we've been advised of the possibility of such damages. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the amount you paid us, if any, in the 12 months before the claim arose.
12. Changes to These Terms
We may revise these Terms as ParelVR evolves. If we make material changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date above and, where practical, let the community know through our Discord. Continuing to use the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.
